Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and could not be more diverse. But for motorcyclists in particular, the island has so much to offer with varied and impressive routes. From the 1st to the 8th of October 2017 the Mallorca Bike Week takes place and promises a completely different kind of Mallorca holiday experience and will certainly make a cyclist's heart beat faster.
Mallorca Bike Week Programme
Swiss motorcyclists or motorcyclists within motorcycling distance of Zurich can take advantage of a great offer run by Helvetic Airways. You ride to Zurich and fly direct to Palma and your bike is transported by air. Bikers spend three nights on the east coast in Cala Millor on the northeast coast of Mallorca at Hotel Bikini and four nights on the west coast in Peguera on the southwest coast of Mallorca at Hotel Lido Park.
The prices for the tour
The price per person is a very reasonable 1,960 Swiss France. The price includes the round-trip flight from Zurich, Airport in Mallorca transfer to the Mallorcan Hotels - Mallorca holiday flair, luggage transport on-site, the transport of your own motorcycle and equipment, seven nights with half board and daily Popular tours and attractions in Mallorca. Pillion passengers pay only 1,190 Francs.
Extra charges may creep in if you wish to purchase cancellation insurance which amounts to 52 Francs, and solo travellers may wish to pay a single room supplement of 190.00 Francs. It should be noted that tourist tax and applicable departure surcharges are small but not optional.
The Mallorca Bike Week
Day One- Setting off
Departure from Zurich and arrive in Mallorca. You get an airport transfer directly to Cala Millor to check in at Hotel Bikini. Your bike will be transported separately. The rest of the day can be spent looking at the place, swimming on the beach and getting to know the others in your group better.
Day Two - The motorcycle tour starts
The tour starts in the east and heads south along coastal roads to the quaint fishing village of Cala d’Or on the southeast coast of Mallorca. From there you continue through pine forests to the village of Cala Pi on the south coast of Mallorca, a small place with about 300 inhabitants. On the way you will get a true feeling for the beauty of nature that will leave a lasting impression. There is a short break in Cala Pi to enjoy the views and take a photo or two.
Then the journey continues into the interior of the island, to Llucmajor. Here is another break, during siesta time. This is the ideal time and place to Refuelling in Mallorca your own personal motor with traditional Culinary Mallorca for the onward journey.
In the afternoon, it's relaxed on quiet country roads to Manacor through idyllic villages on the return leg to the hotel in Cala Millor.
Day Three - Mountain Adventures
The group heads for Inca, a city famous for its artists and bohemians, before the adventure really begins in the mountains. At the pass, you can fill the tanks up and get some much need fluids to make sure you are hydrated. We carry on through the Mallorcan mountains to Pollença in the north of Mallorca with stunningly memorable views in the direction of Cap de Formentor to the lighthouse, where even amateur photographers can capture impressive images. This is the northernmost point of the island.
After the photo stop, push on to the coastal town of Port d'Alcúdia. We stop here at the harbour for lunch in a great restaurant with fresh fish and Mallorcan specialties. Then we continue the journey back south through Artà again over a pass and thento the Ermita de Betlem monastery near Artá, the old monastery and back to the hotel in Cala Millor.
Day Four - Sightseeing in Palma and a new hotel
The trip relocates from Cala Millor in the east to the west coast of Mallorca. On the way, a stop is planned in the capital city and main Mallorca's Ports of Palma. You have some free time to do as you choose here whether that means taking a stroll through the old town of Palma with its numerous cosy restaurants and cafés or choosing to do a spot of Mallorca Shopping and take in the ambience. A visit to Palma's La Seu Cathedral in Palma de Mallorca, is also a recommended attraction.
From Palma the tour goes along the coast to Peguera, where we check into the hotel Lido Park. After that, there is still some time left to take a look around, have a glass or two of something cool and to have a swim in the sea.
Day Five - A view of Dragon Island
The tour continues on the fifth day, winding our way in the mountains of the west and The North Coast of Mallorca - imposing cliffs and heavenly beaches, which is a true pleasure for bikers. From the hotel we go through Port d‘Andratx on the southwest coast of Mallorca to the small coastal village of Sant Elm. Over a cold drink you can enjoy magnificent views of uninhabited Sa Dragonera on the southwest coast of Mallorca or "Dragon Island".
After the short break, the mountain tour begins in earnest through Estellencs and Banyalboufar. We pause for another break at Sa Granja, where there is ample time to relax and take refreshments.
Then the tour continues on the Coll de Claret to Port de Sóller for lunch. The view is unique and impressive, and this is a great place for, a group photo in front of the magnificent natural beauty. Then we head over the Coll de Sòller via Palma to the hotel. After that the evening is yours.
Day Six - The last day of biking
On the last day the tour heads north again into the mountains, through wondrous landscapes and winding country roads to Puigpunyent and Sa Granja. In Son Marroig on the northwest coast of Mallorca we take a break. Here you have a great view over the cliffs of the shimmering turquoise sea. We push on fo a few miles and then stop for lunch in an old olive oil mill.
After regaining a bit of energy, the tour goes on to the highest mountain in Mallorca towards Sa Calobra on the northwest coast of Mallorca. The mountain is 1,443 meters above sea level. On the way back, we pass through Inca to Bunoyla past beautiful mountain meadows before returning to Peguera.
Day Seven - The final day
This is the day to say au revoir to your bike as it need to be taken for return transport. In the evening there will be a farewell dinner on the beach. If you are still feeling energetic, then this is a time to let your hair down and the wild night life of Magaluf is just on the door step.
Day Eight - Homeward bound
Return to Zurich after a great week with lots of great experiences; unforgettable sights, sounds smells and tastes and new friendships.
