Mallorca Airport
Aeropuerto de Son San Juan on the sunny island of Mallorca is the third most popular airport in Spain based on the sheer numbers of travellers passing through it. It is located eight kilometres from the city centre of the island's capital, Palma de Mallorca.
A terminal with four modules
Mallorca Airport was opened in 1960 and has been expanded and upgraded many times to meet the growing passenger numbers. The airport is designed for 38 million passengers per year. Currently the airport is operating at around 23 million passengers so the airport is still comfortably functioning below capacity. Son San Juan airport has a single terminal, which is divided into four modules. In the main building, the departure and Entry to Mallorca lobby, the baggage claim area and 205 check-in desks are spread over several floors. Restaurants and shops with travel accessories take up most of the space in the main building.
The individual modules in the single terminal are assigned to different types of flight. In module A, only flights from non-EU countries are processed. Since most Mallorca Flights are limited to the summer months, the module is usually closed in winter. Module B is only used to handle smaller planes. Module C is one of the larger zones in Mallorca Airport. Most European holiday makers leave and depart the island from here. Module D originally only dealt with domestic Spanish flights however due to the strong increase in air traffic in recent years and decades, low-cost airlines such as Eurowings, Ryanair and Easyjet are also being handled in this area of the terminal.
Tourist infrastructure at the airport
The tourist infrastructure at the airport meets all international standards. Four duty-free shops alone are located in the departure areas. In addition, there are several supermarkets, a drugstore, a pharmacy and ten fashion boutiques. Peoples with reduced mobility can call for assistance at least two days before departure or arrival and will be well catered for. Internet in Mallorca via the Wi-Fi network is available to passengers throughout the airport. Currency exchange offices can be found in the arrivals area.
However, the money exchange service is only available to travellers from non-Eurozone countries. Since Mallorca belongs to the Eurozone, holidaymakers from Ireland or most European countries do not have to exchange money. An extensive but high-priced gastronomic selection can be found in modules C and D.
Onward journey by rental car or bus

Mobile in Mallorca companies can be found in the arrivals hall of the airport. All internationally operating car rental companies as well as several regional providers maintain a branch office at the airport.
In the high season you should reserve a rental car in advance. This is the only way to ensure that you will get the type of vehicle you wish for on the day of arrival. Between the airport and the centre of Palma de Mallorca there are regular buses that run every fifteen minutes. To get to the city centre, take the line 1. The bus line 21 connects the airport with several places on the Playa de Palma. Stops are located in Can Pastilla and in the party stronghold of El Arenal on the south coast of Mallorca.
