Because a rental car is ideal for getting off the beaten track, experiencing lesser-known areas and discovering wonderfully authentic places.
How about a trip to the weekly market in Pollença, for example, to immerse yourself in the colourful market life in the north of the island? You could also visit such remote sites as the monastery of Lluc and be fascinated by the surroundings of the Tramuntana mountain range with its 1,000-metre peaks ...
Discovering Mallorca by rental car
With a rental car in Mallorca, you are mobile, independent and completely flexible in your planning. And you can make stops wherever you feel like it. That suits a relaxed stay on the island perfectly! When looking for a rental vehicle, you will find a huge selection of vehicles - in all price ranges and sizes.
Whether it's a small runabout, a posh car or a chic e-car: international car rental companies are just as represented on Mallorca as local providers. The palette ranges from Sixt , Hertz, Europcar, Avis, Enterprise, Hiper, Hasso, OK Mobility to Sunnycars, Centauro, Roig and many more. Aevab alone, one of two car rental associations on the Balearic Islands, represents around 250 car rental companies on Mallorca and its sister islands.
Where to book car hire in Mallorca?
It is best to book a rental car for Mallorca in advance, for example directly on the websites of the providers, with travel or flight operators, online brokers such as billiger-mietwagen.de or spontaneously on site, for example at your own hotel.
Prices vary greatly depending on the season and services. It goes without saying that rental cars are significantly more expensive in the main holiday months than in the low season. The services offered also vary greatly. So you need to compare prices and services very carefully!
Car hire in Mallorca: what to look out for
- How is the insurance cover regulated?
- Is the car fully insured?
- What is the excess?
- With partial casco: For which damages is the renter of the rental car liable?
- Are glass damages, theft etc. covered?

The check before getting in
Tip: Before picking up the rental car in Mallorca, take photos or a video of the vehicle from all sides with the provider. This way you are on the safe side and can accurately document the original condition of the car when you return it, if the worst comes to the worst.
Car hire in Mallorca: Where to pick up the rental car?
Many providers of rental cars on Mallorca make the cars available to their customers directly at Palma's Son Sant Joan Airport. The pick-up stations are located in the multi-storey car park opposite the terminal building. As they are well signposted, they are easy to find.
Other companies, on the other hand, have stationed their car rental fleet in the vicinity of the airport and offer a free shuttle there. The vehicle is handed over there. Some companies also bring the rental car to the booked hotel. There is usually a surcharge for this special service.
Valuable tips
Sometimes very narrow streets are quite typical for small towns and also the old town of Palma. These streets are only suitable to a limited extent for inexperienced chauffeurs or large rental cars. It is better to park the car a little outside the towns or in Palma in one of the numerous car parks in the Balearic capital - and set off on foot.
Palma's historic centre, for example, with its great shopping opportunities, many galleries, museums, bars, cafés and restaurants, is perfect to explore on foot.
Fancy an e-car? You bet!
Of course, e-cars are also available as rental cars on Mallorca. E-mobility is booming on the Balearic island. And since the distances on Mallorca are manageable anyway, it's no problem to drive across the island with zero emissions and almost no noise.
The vehicle can be charged with electricity in some places in the blue-marked ORA parking zones or in the municipal car parks (SMAP). Supermarket chains such as Lidl also offer charging facilities, sometimes free of charge. Networks such as Melib or Endesa X are represented with around 400 charging options on Mallorca. Charging points for e-cars are also a matter of course for numerous hotels.
The providers of e-car rentals on Mallorca inform their customers exactly where they can charge electric-powered vehicles. If you rent an e-car, ask the provider for an up-to-date map of charging points! The charging structure is constantly being expanded further.
Getting to know the original Mallorca
Once you have booked and taken over the vehicle, you can start exploring Mallorca by rental car! Are you in the mood for sun, sand and small bathing bays?
With more than 250 playas and around 2,800 hours of sunshine a year, Mallorca offers plenty of opportunities to jump into the shimmering turquoise-blue Mediterranean Sea, let your skin dry on the beach and relax with a refreshing drink in one of the beach bars. With a rental car, after all, you can always have swimwear with you.
Taking a spin in a rental car: dream road Ma-10
The Ma-10 on the west coast of the island is a must for all lovers of winding panoramic routes.
A top-class pleasure tour awaits you there, especially at sunset: for example, drive from Deià to Andratx between the open sea and the steep coast on one side and ancient gnarled olive trees and the striking mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana on the other as the day draws to a close. For this is as spectacular as it is romantic.
After so much nature, you need some glitz and glamour? No problem at all. The island is full of variety. And it's precisely this diversity that can be best discovered with a rental car in Mallorca. Head for the posh harbours of Puerto Portals or Port Adriano in your temporary car and marvel at the flashing chrome, sleek million-dollar yachts from up close.
