The advantages of a rental car
Summer, sun, Mediterranean Sea - just let your soul dangle and spend the days on the beach, that's how the vacation of many on the Balearic island of Mallorca looks like.
But Mallorca has much more to offer than beautiful beaches, pleasant water temperatures and beach bars with delicious snacks and an attractive view. If you really want to get to know the island, start on your own a round trip by car.
Car on Mallorca? Yes, but safe!
Just spending the vacation days on the lounger at the beach or hotel pool is not enough for many tourists. There is a lot to see on the island. By car, vacationers can travel around Mallorca independently and discover exciting things.
Safety is a major issue here, which means that vehicles should definitely be insured and regularly serviced when driving around the island.
A safe place to go with German-speaking staff for rental cars in Mallorca is SIXT rent at Palma Airport. Here travelers can pick up their reserved car after landing and start their vacation without any worries.
If it is spontaneous to go a few days by car over the island, a short-term rental of a spacious family car or a sleek convertible is also uncomplicated possible.
The selection is large and from the small two-seater to large van everything to have. Nevertheless, it is advisable to reserve the car from Germany. That way, travelers can save money and avoid unnecessary stress during their vacation.
Tip: Extended car round trip on Mallorca
A nice idea to get to know the island intensively is to make a round trip by car. Mallorca is one of the most popular destinations in Europe and has a lot to offer.
In terms of the season, either the spring from the end of March to the end of May or the autumn months of September and October are suitable. A little earlier in the year, in February and March, the almond blossom transforms the Balearic island into a wonderful sea of flowers.
Outside the main tourist seasons, the most beautiful places on the island are not crowded and the car takes travelers everywhere. In spring and autumn, a round trip by car can also be wonderfully combined with a beach vacation.
Plan first, then start
It's not a good idea to just get in the car and start your road trip without thinking. It is advisable to consider beforehand which places should be visited and which areas should be explored. There are many beautiful villages and towns on the island that are worth a trip. In principle, there are two ways to approach the round trip:
1. the first way is to set the approximate route and book the first two or three nights in the desired accommodations. Once the round trip has started, the following accommodations can be booked spontaneously by phone or online one or two days in advance.
In this way, one experiences the island in a very special way and a feeling of freedom spreads. The Roadtrip on Mallorca becomes an adventurous challenge that holds new surprises and encounters every day.
This allows you to get to know the country and its people much more directly and intensively than is ever possible with pre-booked accommodation in hotel chains.
For those who love and live spontaneity and at the same time are flexible in terms of accommodations, a road trip in Mallorca is a fantastic way to explore the island.
2. The second option is to take star trips from a fixed accommodation. Whether it is a vacation home, finca or hotel, Some prefer a fixed base as a location instead of constantly changing accommodation.
This makes sense for families with small children, for example, or for people who like to come back to familiar surroundings in the evening. From the booked accommodation on the island, appropriate star trips can then be made.
It is practical if the accommodation is located in the center of the island, because then the entire island can be explored excellently via star trips.
Of course, it is also possible to book accommodation on the coast and then explore only a part of the island. The next time, another part of the island is then traveled by road trip.
Recommendable regions on Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca, as the capital, is certainly the most important and versatile place on the island. Here culture and beach vacations can be combined, because the island capital has everything that the vacationer's heart desires.
The old town alleys are oriental in character and clearly exude Mediterranean flair. Many sights invite you to visit. Among the most popular are these:
- Castell de Bellver
- Cathedral of Palma
- Port
- Royal Palace La Almudaina
- Passeig d'es Born and Passeig de la Rambla
- Plaza Mayor
- Santa Catalina
The numerous picturesque coastal towns and bathing bays in the southeast of Mallorca alone, as well as the idyllic rocky coves on the southwest coast, invite vacationers to take exciting exploratory tours around Palma before starting their road trip across the island.
The southwest with Port d'Andratx, Santa Ponsa and Paguera
The southwest of Mallorca offers some well-known and lesser-known coastal resorts. First and foremost are Santa Ponsa and Paguera. Both offer an attractive beach promenade, which invites you to stroll around.
Less well known is the harbor town of Port d'Antratx, which is just a quarter of an hour's drive from Paguera. The harbor is considered a kind of insider tip because it is one of the most beautiful on the Balearic island.
If you drive your car from here over the serpentines into the Tramuntana mountains, you can catch great views over the sea.
The western Mallorca
In the west of Mallorca there is the beautiful mountainous landscape of the Tramuntana, which presents quiet pine forests, orchards and some idyllic villages when exploring.
On the coast lies the town of Valldemossa, which offers beautiful alleys where numerous craftsmen offer their work. From Valldemossa it is worth going further inland.
Connoisseurs of the island recommend a visit to the winery Bodegues Castell Miquel. The winery is located in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana nature reserve and offers incredible views over the landscape.
If you want to take part in a wine tasting here, it's best to book accommodation nearby such as the 4-star Finca Can Sec, which is just under 1800 meters from the winery.
North and east of Mallorca
The round trip through Mallorca leads vacationers further north, for example to the Far de Formentor lighthouse. This can be reached by bus from Port de Pollenca. Also worth seeing is the monastery Santuari de la Mare de déu el Puig. Alcudia with its beautiful historic old town is also worth seeing.
The east of Mallorca offers among other things a wetland, namely the nature park S'Albufera. And, of course, there are many small resorts that line up along the coast like pearls on a string.
Beautiful bays, long beaches and lots of sun are guaranteed here. The resort of Cala Ratjada is one of the better known. It offers many different hotels and accommodations.
This location is suitable for exploring the eastern region on your own. Travelers should make other recommended stops in Cala Millor, Porto Cristo and Manacor.
