The Maritime ambience of Port d'Andratx
Surrounded by the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains, Port d'Andratx is located in a charming natural harbour on the southwest coast. The coastal town has developed over the years to be the playground of the rich and beautiful. Numerous Celebrities in Mallorca from film, television, business and sports live in the exclusive villas on the rocky coast. In the summer months the Marinas in Mallorca is a hive of activity, as sophisticated luxury yachts bob up and down on the turquoise waters. Somewhat reminiscent of a Norwegian fjord it is located in a picturesque bay surrounded by mountains. The marina area is awash with small cafes, bars and restaurants, where you can watch the hustle and bustle of the quayside over a cappuccino.
Excursions to Port d'Andratx
Port d‘Andratx Harbour does not have a beach, but nevertheless has some charming destinations to offer. Away from the marina, in the historic old town, the hustle and bustle dissipates quickly. A little further inland is the town of Andratx, surrounded by orange and lemon tree plantations in a basin. Mountain ranges surround the site from three sides and only the west is void of lofty peaks. This geographic peculiarity leads to low pressure on the mountains and consequently the highest rainfall on Mallorca.
In the centre of Andratx, you will find a mixture of Catalan and colonial architecture. The oldest part of the city with the Gothic church of Santa Maria and numerous baroque buildings is at the top of the hill. Scuba Diving in Mallorca aficionados can book an expedition in the El Buceo diving centre in Port d'Andratx.
